In 1749, the King of England, George II, asked Georg Friedrich Haendel, the German composer who was then living in London, for music to be played during fireworks His Majesty was going to display. He came up with grand music and, while the fireworks lighted the sky, thousands of people marveled at Haendel's music. Their verdict: "Music for the Royal Fireworks" were better than the fireworks themselves. Since this night is going to be crowned with beautiful fireworks all around the globe, nothing more fitting than Mr. Haendel's music to this occasion. Happy New Year!
